Students learn how to establish an e-mail account and create and send e-mail. Extension is available to create folders and send attachments and to discuss social ethical and legal issues. A range of other extensions are possible, including a focus on legal and ethical issues, or focusing the activity on forms of electronic communication that e-mail makes possible, for example, discussion forums. the facility for Internet access and are willing to establish and maintain
e-mail accounts for their students. Yahoo has been chosen for this exercise,
but any number of free Internet e-mail accounts could be selected, all of
which operate on a similar basis and allow the same principles to be

The activity takes the
form of either a single lesson where schools run 75 minute lessons or two lessons where
school operate on a 40 minute lesson. In the case of the latter, attention should be given
to the legal obligations and social contracts that form an ethical approach to use of
